Public Event Submissions
Public event submissions allow attendees to submit events at your camp. This is useful for open stages, center camp, workshop spaces, or any camp that wants to host events in their space.
Setting Up Public Event Submissions
To enable public event submissions for your camp:
- Visit edit.dust.events and sign in
- Select Camps and open your camp
- Click Edit
- Check the Accept Event submissions from the public box
- A schedule manager will appear — configure one or more schedule blocks (one per day your space is available)
- Set the Duration for each time slot (see below)
- Click Save
Once enabled, attendees can submit events for your camp.
Schedule
Each schedule defines a window of time during which submissions are accepted for a given day. You set a start and end time for each day — the system then divides that window into consecutive time slots based on the chosen duration.
For example, a block from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a 1-hour duration produces six slots: 2–3 PM, 3–4 PM, 4–5 PM, 5–6 PM, 6–7 PM, and 7–8 PM.
Duration Options
The Duration setting controls how long each time slot is and how the event submission form works for attendees.
| Duration | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Any | No fixed slot length. Attendees use the standard date/time picker to choose their own start and end time. Overlap checking is still enforced — two events cannot occupy the same time. |
| 30 mins | Slots are 30 minutes long. Attendees pick from a list of available 30-minute slots. |
| 1 hr | Slots are 1 hour long. |
| 1.5 hrs | Slots are 90 minutes long. |
| 2 hrs | Slots are 2 hours long. |
| 3 hrs | Slots are 3 hours long. |
| 4 hrs | Slots are 4 hours long. |
Any (Free-form scheduling)
When Any is selected, the submission form shows the standard start/end date-time picker rather than a slot selector. Attendees can pick any start and end time within the festival window.
The system still checks for overlapping events — if another event has already been submitted for the same time range at your camp, the submission will be blocked with an error.
Use Any when you want flexibility and don't need back-to-back structured programming.
Fixed duration slots (30 mins – 4 hrs)
When a specific duration is selected, attendees see a two-step picker:
- Select a day — choose from the days your schedule covers
- Select a time slot — choose from the available slots for that day
Slots that are already taken by an existing event appear as unavailable and cannot be selected. This prevents double-booking automatically.
Fixed durations work well for sound camps (DJ lineups) and Center Camp.
What Attendees See
When a burner submits an event at a camp that accepts events, they fill in the standard event form (title, description, event type) along with the time selection described above. Submitted events enter the same review queue as camp-submitted events — the Burn organizers must approve them before they appear in the app.
Submitted events are associated with your camp and will appear on your camp's event list.
Attendees can also login to dust and modify events (rescheduling if needed). A camp or burn organzier may need to help to delete events.
