Frequently Asked Questions

How much does dust cost?

There is no cost for regional burns (official or not), and no costs planned in the future either.

Data Privacy

Who owns intellection property?

You own all artwork, maps, events list, images that you upload or enter in dust.

What do you do with that data?

It is only provided in the app and in the static web pages that you may share (e.g. if you use the camp listing from your website).

Do you sell, trade, or in any way transfer the data to any other parties?

No. This data does not go to any third parties, it is not sold or traded in any way.

What are you or the app team allowed to do with the intellectual property?

The data is and will only be used to display in the app or any pages you may embed in your website.

If we ask you to delete the data will you? How can you prove that?

You have full control over the data including the ability to delete all data. I can do this on request for you, and if you would like I can show you how this is deleted in the database and in static content on the CDN.

Is there any PII (personally identifiable information) shared in the app?

No, there is no PII captured by the app. The app does capture GPS to show where you are on the map, but this data is kept internal to the app and never leaves the device (it is not known by us or anyone else). If you allow camps and artists to submit their camp/art information then this is secured by email address to ensure only they can edit their camp/arts info, however the email address is not published in the data the app uses.

Do you have some kind of agreement we can review?

You can find the privacy policy here: https://dust.events/docs/privacy

What data is collected by the app

The app doesn't collect data, it displays art, camps, and events. All data stays in the app so:

  • When the map is shown and location is requested it is stored on the device and never leaves it
  • When the direction the user is facing is request it is stored on the device and never leaves it
  • When a user favorites a camp, art piece, or event it is stored on the device and never leaves it
  • When a notification is setup to reminder the user before an event occurs it is stored locally on the device and never leaves it

There is an exception to this: If you use the "Messages" feature in dust to broadcast a message (eg Lost Child or Burn time change) then these are sent to the push notification unique identifier supplied by Apple or Android, it is random and unique to the installation of the app. This data does not identify the user in any way, it just allows a notification to be sent by you to all devices interested in your burn.

Can you delete that data if a user requests it? If we request it?

Yes, either you or I can process deletions. As you would have admin access to data you can delete camp, event and art information for anyone who requests it.
