Importing Google Maps
Google Maps is a tool often used for camp placement and restroom placement. It can export to a file format called KML which can be imported by dust.
Importing KML
For Camps and Restrooms
You can import a KML file of camp positions by:
- Click Camps
- Click ⋮ (in the top right corner)
- Choose Import KML and select your KML file
For Art
You can import a KML file of art positions by:
- Click Art
- Click ⋮ (in the top right corner)
- Choose Import KML and select your KML file
Preview Before Import
After selecting your KML file, you'll see a detailed preview showing:
- Location Changes: Items found in both the KML and your system with different coordinates
- No Changes: Items where coordinates already match
- New or Mismatching Items: Placemarks that don't match existing records (can optionally be imported)
- Items Not in File: Existing camps/art missing from the KML
- Restrooms and Other Placemarks: Special pins like restrooms and shuttle stops
Review the preview carefully, then click Begin Import to apply the changes.
Name Matching
The system uses intelligent matching to connect KML placemarks with existing records:
- External ID: Matches if the placemark name ends with the item's external ID
- Exact Name: Case-insensitive name comparison
- Fuzzy Match: Handles minor variations like "Camp" prefix/suffix differences, numbers, and special characters
Supported Placemark Types
| Placemark Name Contains | Imported As |
|---|---|
shuttle stop | Shuttle Stop pin |
porto, restroom, toilet, potty | Restrooms pin |
| Other names | Matched to camps/art |
Tips
- Keep placemark names in Google Maps consistent with camp/art names in Dust
